明治期に南房総から太平洋を渡ったアワビ漁師は、カリフォルニア州モントレーで活躍しました。1925（大正14）年、日本の皇族・朝香宮夫妻が渡米した際、異国で活躍する日本人に感銘を受けて贈った寄付金とアワビ事業の収益金で、日系アメリカ人市民同盟（JACL）モントレー会館が建てられました。

現地では100年目の祝賀行事「アワビのすべて！」が企画され、日米オンライン対談がおこなわれます。館山でもその模様を上映し、皆さんで鑑賞しながらお祝いする企画をつくりました。

Abalone fishermen who crossed the Pacific Ocean from Minami Boso during the Meiji period (1868-1912) became active in Monterey, California. In 1925, when Prince and Princess Asaka of Japan’s Imperial Family visited the United States, they were impressed by the Japanese people who were active in a foreign land and made a donation, which, along with profits from their abalone business, helped build the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Monterey Hall.

A 100th anniversary celebration, “All About Abalone!”, will be held in Monterey, featuring an online Japan-US dialogue. A screening of this event will also be held in Tateyama, allowing everyone to celebrate together.
